Search & You WILL Find
I can remember the first time I came across my favourite comic book buying haunt. It was a truly magical moment, and one that I doubt I will ever forget.
It happened on a Saturday.
I was walking down the street wondering why the audio book I had downloaded had switched to a recording of a woman talking about the benefits of hair loss treatments (my fault for not checking what I was downloading properly…) when I bumped into a friend. I mean literally. He went flying actually. He’s always been pretty skinny, it’s not that I’m fat, honest!
Anyway, we got to talking about comics, as we often did, and he told me about this rumour of a place where there were THOUSANDS of comics. Obviously I can’t tell you where it is, as I would be shot by comic book enthusiasts everywhere, but I can sort of talk about it…If I am careful.
So I went on the lookout for this place. I knew it was in an industrial estate in a certain part of town, so I got on my bike and investigated.
Only I couldn’t find it.
For three consecutive weekends I went looking for the damn place, only to be disappointed each time.
Until one day I saw a comic book enthusiast – I can tell them a mile off – scuttling into a railway arch…a door I had never noticed in a corner I had never given much attention.
I went over, snuck in, and found it: the comic book place of a million holy grails!
This was what I had always been searching for. It reminded me of watching Indiana Jones as a kid and being completely blown away…Just the size of it…and the variety…
Who knows, there’s probably one near you, so keep an eye out. You might just get lucky!
